Abstract Mathematics in the Modern World had become one of the subjects that undergraduates took in that was believed to be very useful in everyday living. However, some still perceived it as a boring, and hard subject to take. This study had used the phenomenology in which it allowed the researchers to examine, and discover Mathematics in the Modern World through the perspective of the students. The study utilizes an open-ended question centered on the detail of “what it was like to learn or teach Mathematics in the Modern World. The nature of the question being open-ended is to draw a wide range of responses in which one can verbally describe the experience. From this question and the tacit knowledge of the researcher, follow up questions were made to elucidate and even model the experience if necessary. The instrument was pilot tested and undergone pilot analysis to assure that it is sufficient to draw the essence of the phenomenon. Student participants from Northern Samar State University were randomly selected from a roster of students in the following substratum (a) those who failed in the course, (b) students with grade ranging from 3.0 to 2.6, (c) students with grades ranging from 2.5 to 2.0 and (d) those with grades from 1.9 to 1.0 distributed across the four colleges of the university. Responses were later on transcribed and analyzed using the MaxQDA. Findings was that positive views of students towards the subject provides for a connection to the feeling of belongingness in the class activities. The course was also described to be “easy” which translates to the appreciation to the course, to change in perception – the mitigation of the sigma that is math, and to the attitudinal levels of impact such as efficacy and sense of responsibility.

Abstract Background : This study aimed to fill a gap in the existing literature by investigating burnout among Chinese social workers during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Although a large number of studies have examined the impact of the pandemic on healthcare workers, there are relatively few studies on social workers. Method : Using a non-matched repeated cross-sectional design, this study surveyed frontline social workers who were engaged in COVID-19 prevention and control efforts at two time points: during the pandemic in 2022 (606 respondents) and after the pandemic period in 2023 (336 respondents). The collected data were analyzed to understand changes in burnout and work overload, and the moderating effects of professional identity and organizational support. Results : The analysis showed that social workers experienced moderate levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, along with a drop in personal accomplishment during and after the pandemic. Work overload was a key factor contributing to burnout. Both organizational support and professional identity played roles in moderating the effects of work overload on burnout, but their influences varied over time. During the pandemic, professional identity helped buffer the impact on emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, while organizational support was more effective in moderating personal accomplishment. After the pandemic, organizational support played a more comprehensive moderating role across all burnout dimensions, whereas professional identity only has a weak effect on depersonalization. Conclusion : This study underscores the important role of professional identity during crises and highlights the significance of  organizational support in transition to a post-crisis environment. These insights are valuable for policymakers and practitioners aiming to reduce burnout and improve the well-being of social workers.

Abstract Many studies show that students' emotional instability affects the quality of knowledge acquisition, confirming the thesis of the unity between affect and intellect. The current research is related to the improvement of social emotional competence of prospective teachers, the development of which begins in the period of training. This is why special intervention measures have been designed to increase the level of emotional intelligence and enhance positive thinking in 1 st -year teacher education programme students. It is hence important to study the possibilities for the development of EI and positive thinking in 1 st -year teacher education programme students for their future professional success. Nowadays, it is not just academic knowledge in the professional field that is important for professional activity, but also the ability to recognize and control emotions and to perceive the social environment in a positive way. The Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ- i) and Diener Positive Thinking Scale were used. An intervention programme was designed for the development of EI and positive thinking. To check the effectiveness of intervention, a survey was conducted before and after the implementation of the programme. It was found that specially designed intervention promotes the improvement of EI and positive thinking in the university education environment. The gaps in the development of the social and emotional, and the communicative competence necessary for successful acquisition of teacher training programmes have been remedied in 1 st -year students.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally transformed consumer behavior on a global scale, and Bangladesh is no exception. The pandemic caused extraordinary disruptions in daily life, forcing consumers to rapidly adjust to a new normal characterized by lockdowns, social isolation, and limitations on physical mobility. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) brings greater changes in the consumer decision-making process across the globe. Factors affecting consumers’ electronic shopping (e-shopping) decisions may vary between pre and during the COVID-19 situation. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to investigate the determinants of electronic shopping decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of Bangladesh, along with the role of consumers’ psychology as a mediator. Quantitative type research was applied, and the study used a descriptive research design. A standardized questionnaire was used to collect 543 data points from Bangladeshi consumers using an online purposive sampling method. A partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach was used to evaluate the data and test the hypotheses. The results of the PLS-SEM method showed that electronic shopping decisions were significantly associated with consumers’ psychology, governmental, health, product, and payment factors. The results also revealed that consumers’ psychology significantly and positively mediates the relationship between three determinants (e.g., governmental, social, and product aspects) and electronic shopping decisions. The research recommends that managers, policymakers, and practitioners should provide special attention to the significant determinants of electronic shopping decisions and formulate relevant strategies to address the changes in consumer behavior brought by coronavirus disease.

Abstract Objective: The application of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is employed to scrutinize how emotional intelligence relates to the intention for social entrepreneurship within the context of Bangladesh. Specifically, this study investigates whether relationship management, social awareness, self-awareness, and self-management components constituting emotional intelligence- affect the decision-making process towards embracing social entrepreneurship. Research Design & Methods: In accordance with a quantitative methodology, a cohort of 400 freshmen from Bangladeshi universities, aged between 21 and 26, participated in responding to a structured questionnaire comprising 46 items. Data collection employed a systematic random sampling technique.  Subsequently, for hypothesis assessment, the SmartPLS version 4 software facilitated consistent PLS-SEM algorithm and bootstrapping analyses. Findings: According to survey findings, there is a strong positive association between the relevant variables. The results demonstrate that intentions of students to become social entrepreneurs were highly influenced by their levels of relationship management, social awareness, and self-management. However, it is observed that self-awareness did not significantly contribute to the inclination towards social entrepreneurship. Implications & Recommendations: The findings of this study hold potential utility for academia and policymakers aiming to foster social entrepreneurship among university students. Succeeding research endeavors could enhance the understanding of social entrepreneurial intention by integrating contextual variables, thus providing a comprehensive perspective on the phenomenon. Contribution & Value Added: This study examines entrepreneurial intention within a distinct entrepreneurial context, integrating the four dimensions of emotional intelligence into the realm of social entrepreneurship research.

Abstract Supply chain management (SCM) has become increasingly popular in recent years, during difficult businesse operations various stakeholders, including management, clients, competitors, NGOs, and employees face environmental issues seriously. Aims of study to integrate environmental considerations into all stages of the supply chain process. Effective management of a complex network of suppliers is crucial to reducing a company's environmental impact, as GSCM seeks to integrate environmental management (EM) and SCM. GSCM practices may be adopted for internal reasons, such as strategy processes, or external reasons, such as stakeholder pressure. This fundamental principle of GSCM is that environmental considerations should be integrated throughout the SCM process, from initial design through material selection, production, distribution, and disposal. This research aims to examine the association between GSCM (GSCM) practices and organizational performance. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing both primary and secondary data. The findings suggest that GSCM practices have a negative correlation with organizational performance. The study also found a statistically significant link between GSCM practices and business success, as well as organizational performance. However, the impact of GSCM practices on organizational performance may not be as substantial as previously believed, as it did not have a significant effect on other aspects of organizational performance.

Abstract The adoption of blockchain technology in the banking sector has gained significant attention due to its potential to improve operational efficiency, transparency, and security.  The study aims to investigate how the relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, observability, and trialability of blockchain, as proposed by Rogers' diffusion of innovation theory, impact the adoption behavior of private sector banks in India.  The study employed a quantitative approach, using a quantitative survey to collect data from 250 employees in the banking industry.  The collected data was analyzed using the PLS-SEM technique with the help of SmartPLS software. According to the findings of the study, relative advantage, compatibility, and trialability have a major impact on blockchain behavioral intention, which further impacts actual usage behavior.  Blockchain behavioral intention partially mediates between relative advantage, compatibility, trialability and usage behavior. The study also discovered that complexity and observability do not influence blockchain adoption among private banks in India. As per the study, private sector banks in India should focus on promoting the relative advantages, compatibility, and trialability of blockchain technology to enhance adoption. Hence, efforts should prioritize demonstrating blockchain’s benefits and ease of integration while offering trial opportunities, as complexity and observability do not significantly impact adoption decisions.

Abstract Competition in higher education is essentially a competition for talent, particularly manifested in the competition among high-level university teachers. Therefore, enhancing teachers' loyalty to their profession and universities, controlling talent turnover, and establishing a responsible and well-structured teaching staff are fundamental to the sustainable development of universities. This study, based on the motivation-hygiene theory, utilized convenience sampling to conduct a questionnaire survey on internationally studying teachers from 21 universities in Hainan Province, China. A total of 667 valid questionnaires were collected, and a structural equation model was employed to investigate the influence of organizational incentives in Hainan's universities on the loyalty of international teaching staff; as well as the mediating effect of organizational commitment of international teachers between organizational incentives and loyalty. The research results show that both organizational incentives and organizational commitment can positively predict teachers' loyalty, and organizational incentives can positively predict organizational commitment. Organizational commitment plays a partial mediating role between organizational incentives and teachers' loyalty. Based on this, this study suggests that university administrators should establish a reasonable incentive mechanism and cultivate the organizational commitment of overseas-study teachers, in order to comprehensively enhance the loyalty of overseas-study teachers and ensure the stability of the teaching staff.

Abstract The adoption of K–12 program wanted to produce better proficient pupils with the skills needed for both job and lifetime study. Though the Department of Education (DepEd) emphasized the need for many teachers, issues like the number of students enrolled in the program and the subjects that require specialized instruction tend to increase. Instructors end up teaching subjects other than their area of expertise, which is a problem that schools all around the country are still facing today. This qualitative-phenomenology study carried out a small-scale interview that investigated the challenges faced by teachers who had to teach multiple subject areas. Teachers (n=8) were purposively sampled according to their subject areas. Thematic analysis indicated that teachers were troubled of teaching multiple subject areas because of the preparation process they need to consider, the difference in teaching materials and even their teaching methods matter. Some noted that the process was not effective because the subject mastery was insufficient. These have major implications in education in the Philippines especially it was a common practice to give teaching loads to teachers having competence beyond their area of expertise. This highlighted the need to reevaluate teaching assignments and strategies for professional development to ensure that educators have the necessary competence to effectively teach in different subject areas.

Abstract The term Business Intelligence (BI), first used in 1989 to describe an umbrella concept by Howard Dressner involving methods for improving business decision-making based on facts. It gradually evolved into data-driven decision support systems (DSS) in the contemporary era of technology, replacing terms like executive information systems. BI Solution works as a combination system of collection and storage of data to generate 'actionable information and knowledge at the right time, in the right location, and in the right form. Currently, BI solutions act as a priority for chief information officers (CIO), as a Gartner survey reported, to enhance business effectiveness and innovation by generating quality information of the company and using it in the decision-making process. Over the last few decades, business data volumes have increased tremendously due to the rise of business information systems such as ERP, CRM, etc. International Data Corporation (IDC) highlighted in the 6th annual study that the digital universe comprising structured and unstructured data will grow 300 times to 40,000 exabytes from 130 exabytes by 2020. The size of data will double every two years from 2012 onwards. India has witnessed the increased implementation of business intelligence solutions in the past decade, especially in the service industry, comprising retail, healthcare, BFSI, and IT organizations, to enhance their business practices & procedures and achieve competitive advantage. The present research aims to do a comparative study of business intelligence solution implementation challenges among service industry start-ups, small & medium, and large enterprises.

Abstract In the context of rural revitalization, the development of the rural teaching workforce relies on the synergistic promotion of endogenous forces and exogenous forces. endogenous forces mean internal driving forces that emphasize proactive and innovative personal motivation, while exogenous forces refer to external supports that focus on resource investment and policy guidance. However, an increasing emphasis on exogenous forces while neglecting endogenous forces has limited the sustainable development of China’s current rural teaching workforce. We believe that activating endogenous forces is a key and weak link in promoting the synergistic development of rural revitalization and the rural teaching workforce. Only when endogenous forces are activated by exogenous forces and achieve a "feedback" effect on exogenous forces can a positive cycle in the development of rural teachers be established. In summary, the collaborative development and mutual reinforcement of endogenous and exogenous forces will enhance the professional development of the rural teaching workforce.

Abstract Due to the increasing urbanization and growing regional integration, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is progressively transforming into a globally recognized metropolitan cluster. Rail transit is an effective and eco-friendly kind of public transport that plays a crucial role in fostering regional economic connections and facilitating people's movement. It has become the primary option for inhabitants when it comes to travelling. This study examines the influence of the walking environment's quality on passenger travel experience (the overall satisfaction and comfort felt by passengers when walking in a rail station area), station attractiveness (the degree of attractiveness of a rail station to passengers, which is usually determined by a combination of a number of factors, such as accessibility, safety, and interest of the station area) , and the overall livability of the city (the overall quality of life that a rail station area provides to Residents, including the quality of the environment, infrastructure, public services) . It does so by analyzing the walking environments of six representative rail transit stations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, using the Walking Demand Hierarchy Theory as a basis. The study employed the IPA model to evaluate 20 crucial characteristics of the pedestrian environment. The findings revealed variations in the performance of different stations with regard to accessibility, safety, identification, functionality, and enjoyment. The differences provide a reference point for further optimizing the pedestrian environment in the Greater Bay Area rail station areas.

Abstract Studies showed that upgrading urban slums could bridge income inequality, create better opportunities, and mitigate/prevent virus spread in slums environment. There is a paucity of research concerning regenerating urban slums to achieve Goal 1 in Nigeria with reference to the post-COVID-19. Therefore, this research explored the impact of COVID-19 on slums in Nigerian cities and recommend measures to transform slums into sustainable cities and bridge income inequality to improve achieving Goal 1. The research used an interview type of qualitative research design and covered five major cities across Nigeria. The researchers engaged thirty interviewees (selected construction practitioners, NGOs, medical experts, and government agencies). The study adopted a thematic method to analyse the collated data. Findings show an increased poverty level across the five slum cities covered during and immediately after the pandemic. The significant impacts are high exposure to contagious and non-contagious infections, increased food insecurity, homelessness, unemployment, increased crime rates, and worse overcrowding during the lockdown. The study recommended measures to regenerate urban slums. The findings would stir policymakers to promote urban slum upgrading. Findings will support and provide insight into the active transformations of slums for the benefit of humanity and mitigate climate disruptions in future pandemics.

Abstract Youth leadership brings new perspectives, innovative ideas, and a dynamic approach to addressing contemporary issues. Young leaders often possess a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by their generation, enabling them to develop solutions that are relevant and impactful. Their involvement in public service fosters a sense of responsibility and civic engagement, encouraging a culture of active participation and community building. This study examined the innovative and responsive characteristics of young leaders in the Philippines. This exploratory paper expected to provide understanding on how community clientele like community residents, elderly people, persons with disability, perceived innovative and responsive traits of community youth leaders. Convenience sampling (n=12) was carried out to select the participants seeking assistance from barangays leaders. Findings indicated that the community clienteles described these young leaders as possessing creative minds capable of ‘thinking outside the box’ to address evolving challenges and meet community needs. Youth leaders were noted for their commitment to effective communication, gathering feedback, and working collaboratively with the community to resolve issues. They are accessible and approachable, demonstrating empathy and attentiveness to the concerns of those they serve. The perception of community clientele emphasized how young leaders integrate creative and innovative approaches to problem-solving with proactive and empathetic engagement to the community, and their commitment to transparency and effective communication. These qualities collectively contribute to the community's positive view of youth leadership, recognizing the potential of young leaders to bring about meaningful and lasting change.

Abstract The currency redesign era may complicate financial transactions for construction artisans in the informal sector and threaten to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) (1 and 2). The majority still need a bank account which may increase unemployment and hunger. Therefore, the study investigated Nigerian construction artisans’ challenges in the informal sector and proffered measures to mitigate future currency redesign challenges and, by extension, improve achieving Goals 1 and 2. The study employed a qualitative research design and engaged 28 knowledgeable participants in Lagos, Nigeria. The research achieved saturation with the selected participants and used a thematic analysis to analyse the collected data. The study shows that currency redesign is germane to construction sector advancement and developing economies at large. The impact includes increased unemployment, hunger, low patronage and productivity. These are threats to achieving Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 2. Among the top-ranked measures suggested are encouraging bank account openings, currency redesign should be in sequence and planned, public education and cash handler education purposes, and skills training (reskilling and upskilling). The study extends currency redesign and the construction artisans in the informal sector literature by showing that currency redesign is pertinent to the sector’s growth.

Abstract Urban green landscapes, such as street- and ground-level greenery, are essential for urban populations, enabling frequent and spontaneous interactions with nature in cities. While many cities have increased their green infrastructure and landscapes, their impact on well-being and environmental evaluations needs to be studied more. In the present study, we conducted a field experiment that directly addressed this aspect. Specifically, on two urban streets in Vienna (Austria), we conducted the same structured field experiment during two different periods, during March and May/June in 2022, resulting in different levels of greenery in two urban streets. We aimed to study if and how varying quantities of greenery in urban street landscapes influence subjective well-being in terms of subjective feelings of stress and affective mood, as well as the restorative potential of the locations. Our results showed that, unlike the often-reported positive impact of urban green spaces, the varying amount of greenery on the streets did not positively affect the well-being or the restorative potential of the locations. The results highlight that simply implementing greenery might not be sufficient to induce positive effects. Instead, more intense and dense greenery would be necessary to achieve the desired outcomes.

Abstract This study was aimed to investigate the psychological mechanisms underlying non-suicidal self-injurious behavior. For this purpose, we hypothesized that dysfunctional child modes act as a psychological mechanism to influence the relationship between negative parent-child relationships in childhood and current cognitions (catastrophizing), emotions (emotional dysregulation and depression), and behaviors (non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors). A sample of 430 college students (male 97, female 333) with experience of non-suicidal self-injurious behavior was selected to test the multi-mediation effects of child schema mode (angry, impulsive), catastrophizing, emotional dysregulation, and depression on the relationship between negative parent-child relationships in childhood and non-suicidal self-injury. As a result of structural equation modeling analysis, it was found that negative parent-child relationships in childhood directly influenced child schema mode, catastrophizing, depression, and non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors. In addition, it was found that negative parent-child relationships in childhood were dually mediated by child schema mode and depression and child schema mode and emotional dysregulation. The present study highlights the mediating role of child schema modes as a psychological mechanism underlying the relationship between negative parent-child relationships in childhood and non-suicidal self-injurious behavior. Based on these findings, the usefulness and direction of schema therapy interventions in the field of non-suicidal self-injury counseling are discussed.

Abstract Colours play a significant role in sexual selection among nonhuman animals. As trichromatic primates, humans lack the pronounced skin colouration observed in certain primates. However, they expand their colour preferences by embracing various hues and styles through clothing and fashion. The attractiveness associated with black lacks a known biological basis but appears to derive from its perceived fashionable nature. One mechanism contributing to the allure of black is its slimming effect. Black absorbs visible light, creating shadows that obscure contours and the illusion of reduced distinctiveness in shapes. This visual effect can give a slimmer appearance than wearing lighter or brighter colours, which may accentuate curves or shapes more prominently. In Study 1, conducted by means of an online questionnaire, women wearing black clothing were perceived as slimmer than those wearing yellow and green clothing. However, the slimming effect was significant when comparing black with yellow and green but not significant when comparing black with white, red, and purple. Study 2 involved tracking the colours of the clothing worn by women for 30 days. The results revealed a significant positive correlation between wearing black clothes and the participants' body mass index (BMI). Our research suggests that the perceived attractiveness of the black colour is due in part to its slimming effect and that women with higher BMI may opt for black clothing to visually mitigate their weight.

Abstract Self-service check-in kiosks are increasingly recognized as a cost-effective solution for expanding check-in capacity without the need for terminal building expansion. These kiosks serve as essential airport infrastructure, providing time savings for passengers, cost reductions for airlines, and optimized space utilization for airports. This study aims to investigate whether the claimed 49 percent reduction in required check-in space with the adoption of self-service check-in kiosks is valid and examines how various factors influence this space saving. A small sized airport with an average annual traffic of 1 million passengers and 500 Typical Peak Hour Passenger (TPHP) serves as the case study. Through static analysis, the study assesses the impact of failure rates associated with self-service check-in kiosks on overall space savings. The findings indicate that failure rates significantly diminish space savings, underscoring the importance of technology reliability in maximizing efficiency. Additionally, space savings are influenced by passenger demand, passenger profiles, processing times, queuing/waiting times and space per passenger. These results suggest that while self-service check-in kiosks can enhance operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction, their effectiveness is contingent upon managing technology reliability and understanding diverse passenger needs. Overall, this study highlights the potential of self-service check-in kiosk in improving airport operations while providing valuable insights for future implementations.

Abstract Objectives: This study shows how contemporary dance serves as a dynamic platform for challenging and redefining notions of gender and identity. By analyzing a variety of contemporary dance performances, the research aims to reveal the underlying narratives that reflect and contest societal norms. Through a detailed examination of choreographic choices, movement vocabulary, and thematic elements, the study highlights how these components contribute to the deconstruction of traditional gender constructs. Methods: Additionally, the research investigates the role of contemporary dance as a form of activism, focusing on how performers use their craft to entertain, raise awareness, and provoke dialogue on social issues. An artificial neural network (ANN) was employed to estimate the relationships between gender fluidity, the challenge of social norms, and their effects on transformation potential, activist participation, and artistic expression. Results: The results indicate that increases in both gender fluidity and thechallenge to social norms significantly enhance transformation potential, activist participation, and artistic expression. The accuracy of the ANN's predictions was validated through linear regression analysis, demonstrating acceptable error margins compared to experimental results. Conclusions: This study ultimately underscores the transformative power of contemporary dance in shaping social discourse and advocacy.

Abstract Brand visual identity is a critical component of brand image and impacts consumers' brand perception and attitude. Although scholars and practitioners have increasingly researched brand visual identity, most focus on brand communication and corporate management perspectives, necessitating a systematic review of consumer attitudes based on brand visual identity elements. This study aims to review the impact of brand visual identity on consumer attitudes and provide directions for future research. We conducted a systematic search using PRISMA guidelines, reviewed relevant articles published in four databases (Web of Sciences, ProQuest, Scopus, and Elsevier) in the past two decades (2004-2024), and obtained 559 articles in M ay  2024. We conducted a thorough peer-review of both theoretical and empirical journal articles, followed by a scoping review. Thirty-four studies were eligible, analysing consumers' perceptions of various core elements of brand visual identity (BVI) (such as brand logo, colour, name, typography, and font), as well as the impact of brand visual identity on consumer attitudes and the practical implications of brand management. The results show that the consumption of visual identification elements affects consumers' perceived brand quality, brand personality, brand satisfaction, loyalty, favourability, and so on., as well as purchase intentions and social attitudes. In summary, the findings indicate that brand visual identity elements impact consumer perceptions and attitudes. However, despite some progress, further research is necessary to arrive at more definitive and robust conclusions.
